Zeke's Daily Prediction

Every day, Zeke studiously awaits while I finish my second cup of coffee. As soon as I down the last gulp, he appears at my knee, reminding me that I need to brush my teeth. Sometimes he appears at my knee before I finish, and I hold up my cup and say "I still have coffee", to which he responds by retreating to his spot on the couch.

When I finally get up and put the computer down, Zeke will grab one of his spiky balls and follow me upstairs where he plays the "gimme that ball" game. He'll put the ball down, walk a few steps away and watch. As soon as it looks like I'm making my move, he'll run back to the ball and grab it. I very rarely get to the ball before he does, but that's part of the game.

So a today I had a thought, The little guy is exceptionally smart. How does he decide whether to pick the red ball or the green ball? Odd/even days of the month? Sunny/cloudy? He does know the difference (If we say "Where's your green ball?" he goes looking for it), so how does he choose? Is a green ball day better than a red ball day? A non-scientific study is in progress. Stay tuned for the results.
